I’m not here to perch on your shoulder. (s04e02: Are You There God? It’s Me, Dean Winchester)
I always come when you call. (s06ep21: Let It Bleed)
The reason I put this photoset together was to sort of demonstrate exactly how strong and significant the relationship between Castiel and Dean has become over the span of three seasons. Back in season 4 Castiel was strictly business when it came to the Winchesters (that slowly started to change as the season progressed). He was all proud of being an angel and he wasn’t going to let a few humans make him question anything. That changed soon enough. He went from being an angel focused more on Heaven’s plans to an angel that seemed to be focused on the Winchesters’ plans. To be blunt, he became perched on Dean’s shoulder; always showing up when Dean needed him, trying to help Dean in anyway he could, always protecting Dean. Cas went from being a “soldier” to a “guardian”; which is sort of—is ironic the right word to describe it?—because Dean mentioned he thought angels were supposed to be guardians and Cas explained that they are warriors. Anyways, the fact that Castiel willingly became “perched” on Dean’s shoulder proves how strong their profound bond really is.
